Inter-governmental agreement among the Nabucco has pipeline project participating countries to be signed in June is an important step in the realization of this project, head of the SOCAR representative office in Austria Gulmirza Javadov said.
"The inter-governmental agreement is expected to be signed in June. It is an important step. The future talks will show what position we will have in this project," Javadov said.
Javadov said talks are held as a part of Nabucco, but results have not been achieved yet. "In this case our office [SOCAR representative office in Austria] plays role of connecting-link," he said.
Representative of international projects and "Nabucco" at OMV Christian Dolezal mentioned earlier that the signing of an agreement with Turkey at this stage of the project is a major issue. Discussions with the supplier countries on volumes of gas to be delivered by the pipeline will start after the agreement is signed and the so-called "open season" stage begins
The Nabucco project worth €7.9 billion will deliver Azerbaijani and Central Asian gas to the EU. Construction of the pipeline is expected to commence in 2010. Its maximum capacity will be 31 billion cubic meters per year.
Nabucco shareholders are the Austrian OMV, Hungarian MOL, Bulgarian Bulgargaz, Romanian Transgaz, Turkish Botas and German RWE with 16.7 percent each.
