Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov charged the government with designing of international-legal basis that will be reliable fundament of interaction with EU in fuel-energy sphere, official Turkmen source said.

Basis of this document were the memorandum on mutual understanding and cooperation in power engineering signed by the sides, as well as trade agreement ratified by European Parliament recently.

The initiative was voiced after the meeting of joint committee Turkmenistan-EU held in Brussels on June 3-4, source said. Leading heads of EU expressed great concern in further acceleration of dialogue with Turkmenistan during talks.

Berdimuhamedov stressed importance of decision made at regular meeting in Brussels.

The Turkmen President charged vice-premier minister, foreign minister Rashid Meredov and corresponding departments of the Cabinet of Ministers to prepare necessary documents on their fulfillment and submit for consideration in the nearest time.

Turkmenistan is one of key natural gas suppliers in the Caspian region. Brussels tries to find direct way to import Turkmen gas to diversify energy resources. Europe considers Nabucco project as optimal variant designated to provide suppliers from Azerbaijan and Central Asia.

Ashgabat also revived operations on diversification of routes blocked by mainline pipelines managed by Russian Gazprom OJSC for a long time. Gazprom bought 45 billion cubic meters of gas to re-export it to Europe and CIS annually.
