Georgia, Tbilisi, July 14/ Trend , N.Kirtskhalia /

As payment for transit after the operation of Nabucco pipeline, Georgia will receive 1.6 billion cubic meters of gas free of charge, Minister of Energy Alexander Khetaguri told reporters today after the government meeting.

According to the minister, as a result of the Nabucco project, 16 billion cubic meters of transit gas will pass through the territory of Georgia, and upon the current contract on Shah Deniz, Georgia will receive five percent of gas as payment for transit, and other five percent at preferential price, which generally totals 1.6 billion cubic meters of gas.

According Khetaguri, it is very advantageous and important project for Georgia.

"1.6 billion cubic meters of gas is the volume that Georgia consumes today. By 2014, the gas consumption in Georgia will increase as the economy will develop much better. I believe that the gas that Georgia will obtain from Nabucco project will cover a large share of Georgia's consumption," said Khetaguri.
