SOCAR ups oil production

In January-June, oil and gas production unities of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) produced roughly 26.6 million barrels of oil (over 3.6 million tons), compared to 27.3 million barrels (3.7 million tons) from offshore and onshore fields of the country compared to in the same period of 2008, SOCAR reported.

Roughly 7 million barrels falls to SOCAR's joint projects with foreign companies and around 936,500 barrels of this volume falls to operation companies, around 5.5 million barrels - to the Azeri-Chirag-Gineshli project and over 585,000 barrels to gas condensate from the Shah Deniz field.

In the first quarter, SOCAR produced roughly 4 billion cubic meters of gas compared to 3.8 billion in the same period of 2008. In this period, SOCAR oil and gas production unities produced over 3.6 billion cubic meters of gas. Joint ventures and operation companies producing gas onshore transferred roughly 35.1 million cubic meters of gas to SOCAR in January-June.

The Azerbaijan International Operation Company (AIOC) produced roughly 2 billion cubic meters of gas for SOCAR in January-June, compared to 842 million cubic meters in the same period of 2008.

There are 57 oil and gas fields in Azerbaijan, including 18 offshore and the remaining onshore.
