Railway work completed in new oil terminal in Azerbaijan

All rail work within the construction of the Garadagh-Sangachal oil terminal has been completed, Azerbaijan State Railway Department JSC reported. These works are carried out within the first phase of construction of the new terminal.

There are plans to spend $40 million on the first phase of the project. Totally it is expected to spend $135 million for the project.

Key operator in the project is Kavkaztransservis (part of Azersun Holding). Garadagh terminal will receive limited kinds of products (condensate and oil) in large volumes. In addition, the terminal is envisaged to receive crude oil from Kashagan field which will be transported to the terminals on the Black Sea shore and the Ceyhan Port via Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline.

The construction of the first stage of the terminal will conclude within 18-20 months. The transshipment capacity of the terminal at the initial stage will make up 5mln tons, with further increase up to 20mln tons.

The construction of certain facilities of the Garadagh-Sangachal terminal will conclude in 2009. The storage capacity of the terminal is 200,000 cubic meters. It is expected to be increased up to 600,000 cubic meters. The transshipment capacity of Garadagh-Sangachal in the implementation of the second and third phase of the project will reach 45 million tons per year after 2011. The first phase of the project was scheduled to be completed in 2010.
