During the first five months of 2009 Georgia imported 270,640 tons of gasoline and diesel fuel, Vano Mtvralashvili, Chairman of Georgian Union of Oil products Importers said.
In particular, 128,700 tons of gasoline and about 142,000 tons of diesel were imported. During the same period of 2009, 302,500 tons of fuel, in particular about 173,000 tons of oil and 129,500 tons of diesel were imported.
"As a result, import of oil products reduced by 31,800 tons in 2010 compared to the same period of 2009 , .Mainly gasoline import reduced to 44,200 tons," Mtvralashvili said.
According to him, Brand Regular has the biggest share in import of gasoline - 83,5 percent, Premium - 14 percent and Super - 2,5 percent.
"In recent times, many vehicles that have been consumers of gasoline transferred to natural gas, because it is much cheaper. For example, if gasoline of Brand Regular is 1,7-1,8 lari, the price of gas is 1,1 - 1.2 lari," Mtvralashvili said.
