Azerbaijan increases purchase of Shah Deniz's gas

In January-June, Azerbaijan received about 1.1 billion cubic meters of gas from gas condensate field Shah Deniz compared to about 763.6 million cubic meters over the same period in 2009, SOCAR reported.

In January-June, Azerbaijan received about 1.1 billion cubic meters of gas from gas condensate field Shah Deniz compared to about 763.6 million cubic meters over the same period in 2009, SOCAR reported.

About 294.2 million cubic meters of the total amount of gas received in January-June fall to SOCAR in the project of Shah Deniz and the rest - 769.5 million cubic meters of gas from the field was bought by SOCAR.

The contract to develop the offshore Shah Deniz field was signed June 4, 1996. Participants to the agreement are: BP (operator) - 25.5 percent, Statoil Hydro - 25.5 percent, NICO - 10 percent, Total - 10 percent, LukAgip - 10 percent, TPAO - 9 percent, SOCAR-10 percent.

Now gas is transported to Georgia and Turkey via the South Caucasus gas pipeline.

It is expected to receive 7.84 billion cubic meters in the field this year, peak production forecasted at over 8.6-9 billion cubic meters. It is planned that in the second stage of field development, gas production can be brought up to 20 billion cubic meters a year.
