An additional gas compressor station was commissioned in the Bagtyyarlyk commodity field in the Lebap region of Turkmenistan on Sept.27, to supply Turkmen gas to China, a source in the country's energy sector reported.
The new facility built by the Belgian company Enex will deliver 60 million cubic meters of gas per day. Earlier, the Chinese media reported that the Turkmenistan- China pipeline's capacity could rise to 15 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
The pipeline's capacity should reach 30 billion cubic meters a year in 2011. To date, the pumping capacity of the pipeline is approximately nine billion cubic meters per year, or 24.5 million cubic meters per day.
In late June 2010, China voiced its readiness to buy more natural gas from Turkmenistan, in addition to amounts that were originally specified - this is 40 billion cubic meters of fuel a year. This amount can be transported by 2012-2013.
Ashgabat imports gas to Russia and Iran. The country intends to access to markets in Europe and Southeast Asia.
