Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Dec. 16 / Trend H. Hasanov /

The China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) plans to import 13 billion cubic meters of natural gas from the right bank of the Amu Darya in Turkmenistan in 2011, the company said. About 3.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas have been bought since early 2010.

Gas is transported through the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China gas pipeline. It was commissioned in December 2009. The project was implemented by CNPC. It allowed Turkmenistan to expand sale markets, limited by the deliveries to Iran and Russia.

Prophylactic work was conducted on a new main line for two weeks from mid. October.

CNPC operates in Turkmenistan on the basis of an exclusive agreement to develop the onshore field Bagtyyarlyk in the Lebap region. The Turkmen government concludes all other PSAs with foreign companies only for offshore blocks in the Caspian Sea.
