Turkish company to produce pipes for Nabucco

Turkish steel company Özbal Çelik Boru will provide Nabucco project with the pipelines worth $500 million, Sabah newspaper reported.

According to company head Yucehan Ozture, the pipelines will be supplied within four years.

Ozture said the company has established a special production line to produce pipes for Nabucco project.

The Nabucco project is designed to transport gas from the Caspian region and the Middle East to EU countries. The project is worth 7.9 billion euro, with its construction planned to start in 2013 and the first supplies to be commissioned in 2017.

The project's participants include the Austrian OMV, Hungarian MOL, Bulgarian Bulgargaz, Romanian Transgaz, Turkish Botas and the German RWE.

Earlier the company told Trend that it has received a certificate confirming the company's ability to produce pipes for the Nabucco gas pipeline.

The length of the pipeline that will pass through Turkey is 2,581 kilometers, which translates into some $2.5 billion euros in monetary terms.

Ozture said Nabucco project, as well as the Russian South Stream project, which is also planned to cross Turkish territory, are very important in terms of meeting the EU's future energy needs.
