Turkey imports 43 percent of crude oil from Iran in Sept.

Turkey imported about 743,000 tons of crude oil from Iran in September 2011, nearly 43 percent of its total need for oil, Turkey's Energy Market Regulatory Authority was quoted by Fars news agency as saying.

The country's crude oil imports amounted to 1.72 million tons in September, showing 24.6 percent compared to the same month of last year. Iran exported 821,000 tons of crude oil to Turkey in August, the report said.

Turkey imported 2.9 million tons of oil from 22 countries in July 2011, and the highest amount was supplied from Iran.

Turkey imported 1.3 million tons of oil from Iran. It was followed by Iraq with 340,869 tons.

Iran and Turkey are major energy partners. On average, Iran exported more than 30 million cubic meters of natural gas to Turkey per day in 2010, or 7 percent more than in the first half of 2011.

According to the report of the National Iranian Gas Company, Iran's gas export to neighboring Turkey increased by 50 percent in 2010 compared to the previous year, and by 100 percent compared to 2008.
