Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov.14 / Trend, E. Ismayilov /

Following the pumping season in 2011, gas volume in underground gas storage facilities in Azerbaijan hit about 3.25 billion cubic meters compared to 3.05 billion cubic meters following the pumping season of 2010, a source in the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) told Trend on Monday.

Azerbaijan has two underground gas storage facilities - Garadagh and Kalmaz.

In 2010, SOCAR planned to pump 3.5 billion cubic meters of gas into the underground gas storage facilities, but due to sharp change in weather and increased consumption gas pumping was stopped earlier than the planned date, the source said.

He said gas extraction from underground gas storage facilities has been already started to meet consumer needs, and volume of gas in storage facilities is a little more than 3.1 billion cubic meters.

Also, according to the source, repair of old and drilling of new wells will continue by late 2011 in both gas storage facilities. These operations are carried out to increase the volume of pumped gas.
