A new wind power plant will be build in Kazakh Almaty region's Shelek corridor till 2014, Kazinform reported referring to the Samruk-Energy company. The designed capacity of the plant will hit from 60 to 300 MW.
On Tuesday the head of Almaty region Ansar Musakhanov and CEO of Samruk-Energy Almasadam Satkaliyev signed a memorandum of cooperation which envisages construction of this wind power plant.
The project will be implemented on the following principle: Samruk-Energy through its subsidiary Samruk-Green Energy will acquire 51 percent stake in the project, the social-entrepreneurial corporations Zhetisu will have 49 percent of the shares in the project.
The project will be implemented in three phases. Within the first phase till 2014 the wind power plant with 60 MW capacity will be build. In the second phase in 2014-2016 its capacity will be increased to 120 MW and in the third phase in 2016-2018 its capacity will be increased to 300 MW.
The total project cost will hit 103.6 billion tenge ($670 million).
"The Shelek corridor was chosen as a place to build wind power plant reasonably. Average annual wind speed hit 7.8 meters per second, the flux density amounts to 310 W/m2 here at 50 meters height," the company said.
These indices will allow the wind power plant to produce 3,100 hours per year.
It is expected that construction of new generating facilities, including wind power stations in the Almaty region will significantly reduce the existing energy shortages in the region.
