Turkey's demand for electricity will grow to 500 billion kilowatt / hours in 2023 compared to 230 billion kilowatt / hours this year, a Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources report released Monday on its website, stated.

'Turkey is second in the world after China in growing energy consumption', the report stated.

By 2023, electricity production in Turkey will amount to only 420 billion kilowatt / hours. The remaining 80 billion kilowatt / hours can be produced in Turkey only in the case of the full operation of the two nuclear power plants - Akkuyu and Sinop.

If in 2023, Turkey will start to produce nuclear energy, the country will save $7.2 billion on electricity imports.
