Serbia is interested in Azerbaijani gas, Serbian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Zoran Vajovic said at a briefing on Tuesday.
"Serbia is ready to participate in projects on the transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe. Serbia is in need of Azerbaijani gas," he said.
Vajovic said that Serbia has contracts with Russia for the supply of gas, however, it is interested in diversifying its routes, including from the Caspian region.
The Southern Gas Corridor is a priority energy project for the EU aimed at diversifying the routes and sources of its supply and thereby increasing European energy security. Gas which will be produced during the second phase of Azerbaijani Shah Deniz field development is being considered for the main source for the Southern Gas Corridor projects. Gas reserves of Shah Deniz field are estimated at 1.2 trillion cubic meters.
Azerbaijan and Serbia will expand their legal base with new agreements in economic and humanitarian spheres.
Documents are planned to be signed during Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic's upcoming visit to Azerbaijan from Feb.7 to 9, a diplomatic source told Trend earlier.
It will be the first official visit of the Serbian president who was elected in May last year to Azerbaijan.
The agenda of the negotiations at the highest level will include current issues of bilateral cooperation.
In recent years, relations between the two countries have been developing rapidly and are on a path towards the development of strategic partnership. Until today, the two countries have signed 19 documents at intergovernmental and interdepartamental levels.
Trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Serbia amounted to $21.26 million in January-September 2012, where $21.22 million account for imports. During the year, trade turnover grew by 15 times as a result of increasing import operations.
