Research and development in the energy sector in Turkey will be funded by the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry at 80 percent, the ministry's website reported.

In particular, preference will be given to projects aimed at the study and research in use of local energy resources in electricity generation.

Also, the Ministry will finance projects in the development of renewable energy and the exploration and development of hydrocarbon fields, the development of energy-efficient technologies, projects for the transmission and distribution of electricity, and etc.

Turkey is actively searching for oil and gas in order to reduce dependence on oil and gas products from overseas. Earlier in January of this year, reserves of high quality oil were discovered at the Magrip field in the Kurtalan district of the Siirt province of Turkey.
In addition, the country is engaged in oil exploration in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean.
