A gas main will be laid to Astana by 2015. This was announced today during a meeting aimed at fostering dialogue between capital residents and Astana mayor Imangali Tasmagambetov.

"Gas will be a qualitative new source of energy for the capital by 2015. By late 2014 National Company KazMunaiGas plans to lay a gas main to Astana along with the construction of two automatic gas pumping stations with a capacity of 210,000 cubic meters per hour," Tasmagambetov said.

He said that there are plans to gasify the industrial part of the city and its private sector first. A feasibility study is being developed according to which gas, in the first place will be supplied in two directions.

"Gas will first be supplied to residential areas on the outskirts of the capital and its industrial park. In all, 1.2 billion cubic meters of gas is needed for consumption," Tasmagambetov said.

As reported earlier, the project's financing issues have been resolved. The Chairman of the Kazakh Sovereign Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna Umirzak Shukeyev assured that construction of the gas pipeline 'Tobol-Kokshetau-Astana' will begin in the first quarter of 2013.
