Over the past ten years, the consumption of gasoline in Azerbaijan increased by three times, Vice President of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) on refining David Mammadov said at the 'Caspian Oil and Gas 2013' conference.

According to him, in the first four months of this year, gasoline consumption has increased by 14 percent compared to the same period of last year. In the last year, gasoline consumption in Azerbaijan amounted 1.38 million tons.

Taking into account the growing automobile park of the country and for the purpose of ensuring Azerbaijan's long-term needs in the gasoline it was decided to increase the capacity of the Baku Oil Refinery named after Heydar Aliyev, till the commissioning of a new complex for oil and gas processing and petrochemical production.

In particular it applies to the plants for primary oil processing, catalytic cracking, catalytic reforming and periodic coking, Mammadov said.
