SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) will complete the drilling of an exploration well on the Goshadash prospective structure in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea by the end of the year, a source in SOCAR told Trend.

According to him the current depth of the well is 750 metres out of a projected 3500 metres.

"Drilling of wells is on-going at Goshadash and expected to be completed by the end of the year," the source said.

Earlier, SOCAR started drilling the first exploration well with a planned depth of 3500 metres on the Goshadash structure, but it was later suspended for technical reasons. Work was then launched to drill a new well.

The Goshadash structure is in the northwest of the Absheron archipelago in 15 kilometres from the coast where the water has depths of up to 50 metres.

SOCAR includes production association Azerneft (the companies producing oil and gas onshore and offshore), production association Azerikimya (chemical industry) and production association Azerigas (distribution and sale of gas).

In addition, the State Oil Company has a number of processing and service enterprises as well as institutions involved in geophysical and drilling activities.
