Due to the refusal of the National Energy Company TAQA (United Arab Emirates) to implement a project on the construction and modernisation of thermal power plants (TPP), Turkey has already started negotiations with other countries to participate in the project, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz said, Zaman newspaper reported on Tuesday.

"TAQA's unilateral refusal over the project may have a political motivation. We hope that it is not true. In any case this decision of the company is wrong," Yildiz said.

On August 27 it became known that The National Energy Company TAQA (United Arab Emirates) has refused to implement a project on the construction and modernisation of thermal power plants (TPP) in Turkey. The cost of the project on construction of TPP is estimated at $12 billion.

In January 2013 an agreement was signed between Turkey and the United Arab Emirates on cooperation in the field of lignite mining and power generation in Afshin-Elbistan.

Within the framework of this agreement, where there are deposits of 40 per cent of domestic lignite, it is planned to construct thermal power plants.

In the first stage the TAQA Company was going to construct a new TPP in Afshin-Elbistan until late 2014. The construction of the second TPP was planned to start in the latter part of 2014.
