Two new gas fields were discovered in Libya, the Libyan National Oil Company said today.
One was discovered in the Murzuq oil and gas basin 750 kilometres from the capital of Libya, Tripoli. It is reported that up to 114,000 cubic meters of gas per day will be extracted at this field.
Moreover, gas reserves were discovered at the Gadames oil and gas basin 800 kilometres from Tripoli. Up to 285,000 cubic meters of gas per day will be extracted at this field.
According to a BP report, Libya's proven reserves amounted to 1.5 trillion cubic meters as of early 2013.
Gas production in the country in 2012 amounted to 12.2 billion cubic meters.
