Construction of several energy facilities planned in Kazakhstan

By Daniar Mukhtarov - Trend: Aktobe oblast of Kazakhstan (north-west of the country) is increasing its energy potential, akim (governor) of the Aktobe oblast (province) Arkhimed Mukhambetov said on November 8 at a briefing held at the Central Communications Service under the President of Kazakhstan.

"A number of power facilities are planned to be built in the oblast. Thus, it is planned to begin construction of a power plant running on the off-gases of the ferroalloy production worth $90 million. The capacity of the first phase will amount to 50 megawatts, with growth to 190 megawatts. Commissioning of the power plant is scheduled for 2015," Mukhambetov said.

According to him, a project on building a 160 megawatts gas turbine power plant is also envisaged in the country. The gas turbine power plant will provide the oblast's economy with its own energy sources.

"The volume of the investment of this project exceeds $ 800 billion. The facility will be commissioned in the first half of 2014, just after seven or eight months," the region's governor said.

The governor also said that a project was launched for the construction of a wind power plant having a capacity up to 96 megawatts, as part of the instructions of the Head of State on the development of 'green economy'.

The total cost of the project is $ 200 million.
