Electricity production in Azerbaijan in 2014 is projected to reach 22 billion kilowatt/hours, Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Industry and Energy, Natig Abbasov told journalists on Dec. 11.
Growth in electricity consumption is needed for full utilisation of generating capacities and in this sense, great opportunities will be opened by the export of electricity including as part of the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey Power Bridge.
Over 19.3 billion kilowatt/hours of electricity was produced in Azerbaijan's energy system in January-November, compared to 19.2 billion kilowatt/hours in the same period in 2012.
The capacity of the power plants, owned by Azerenergy JSC, exceeds 6,000 megawatts. The company has more than 200 substations on its balance sheet with a capacity of 500, 330, 220 and 110 kilovolt/amperes, as well as eight hydroelectric plants and 13 thermal power plants.
