Military and police may be used to restore power in Georgia

Tbilisi, Georgia, Dec. 16
By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:

Throughout its existence Georgia's energy industry has not experienced as powerful a crisis, as it is going through now, Georgian Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze said speaking at an emergency meeting with Georgian Prime Minister on Dec.16.

Heavy snowfall cut off dozens of villages in Georgia, leaving several hundred thousand customers without power.

The minister said that the situation is now stabilized, and restoration work is almost completed.
The village of Khulo, Shuakhevi and Keda, where restoration work is hampered by snow drifts and complex terrain, are currently without electricity, Kaladze said.

Eliminating problems in these villages may take about 10 days. In other areas, electricity is being supplied smoothly," the minister added.

After familiarizing himself with the energy crisis, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili did not exclude the possibility of involving officers of the Interior Ministry and the Defense Ministry in the restoration work. The prime minister said that, if necessary, the country's militaries and police can be mobilized for the restoration work in Adjara.
