SOCAR announces starting date of new chemical enterprises construction in Azerbaijan

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan plans to begin construction of a carbamide plant in Sumgait in September-October.

SOCAR Vice-President for Refining, David Mammadov made the remarks during the the 21st International Caspian Oil and Gas-2014 Conference in Baku

It is planned to complete the basic engineering by the end of June, and to begin a detailed engineering project in June and July, he said.

The plant will be commissioned by the end of 2016. The creation of this company in the country will have a positive impact on the development of agriculture and contribute to food security.

The new plant will be located in the industrial area of the "Azerkimya" production association (PA) in the city of Sumgait. The projected annual design capacity of the plant will be about 600,000 tons of carbamide per year (2,000 tons per day) and 1,200 tons of ammonia per day.

The funds for construction of the plant in the amount of about 500 million euros (excluding taxes) will be allocated from the state budget, since its construction is provided under the State program of providing the population in Azerbaijan reliable food products in 2008-2015. SOCAR also plans to start construction of similar plant in Georgia.
