Turkmenistan summarizes the results of international tender held by the "Turkmengeologiya" State Corporation for the right to perform complex seismic surveys, including in the "North Goturdepe" field located in the shallow waters of the Caspian Sea, according to the Turkmen Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.

"The exploration work will cover "Goturdepe" and "North Goturdepe" fields as well as a number of other prospective oil and gas areas of the western region of the country," the ministry's report said.

The said issue was also discussed at a meeting of the Turkmen Cabinet of Ministers, according to the report.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave instructions on a number of assignments to the top-managers of the industry to enhance exploration and geophysical studies aimed at finding new deposits of hydrocarbons and oil and gas structures, according to the report.

The report further noted that the head of the state touching upon the issue of the additional seismic studies pointed to the importance of using the most modern technology in the processing of received geological and geophysical data.

It was reported earlier that the resources of the Turkmen shelf of the Caspian Sea, which is estimated at 12 billion tons of oil and 6.5 trillion cubic meters of gas, and a number of contracted territories located at the medium and large depths were put up for international tender.

About three years ago, Turkmenoil State Concern started developing the Caspian Sea's shallow part, using modern equipment and implementing high-performance technologies for dual operation of two or more horizons in one and the same well.

Currently the state concern operates about three dozen fields, including more than 600 oil and gas deposits that are at various stages of development.
