The latest announcement by a high-ranking Iranian Oil Minister's official indicates that the country's primary energy consumption has increased by 17.9 percent since March 2012.

The head the National Iranian Gas Co. Hamid Reza Araqi said on Dec.29 that the country's gas consumption is about 4 million barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) per day, shares about 75 percent of the country's total primary energy consumption, Shana repoeted.

Then the total primary energy consumption in Iran is currently about 5.33 million BOE.

According the latest annual report of Iran Energy Efficiency Organization, released early 2014 and covers the statistics of a fiscal year to March 2012, Iran's energy consumption was 4.38 million BOE per day.

Iran's fiscal year starts on March 21.

Then with comparing the figures mentioned above, gas consumption increased by 710,000 BOE per day.

Below is Iran's fossil energy carriers consumption per day according to the data derived from National Iranian Oil Refining & Distribution Company's (NIORDC) annual reports.

Consuming 4 million BOE of gas equals to 635 million cubic meters of natural gas per day, while this figure for 2012 was 427 million cubic meters per day (mcm/d).

Iran's Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said Dec.27 that Iran's enriched gas production level reached 660 mcm/d. Iran produces about 570 mcm/d of dried gas, while supplies 35 mcm/d of enriched gas to petrochemical plants and injects the remained volume to old oil fields.

Iran has also contracted with Turkey to deliver 27 mcm/d of dried gas, while it is importing the same value from Turkmenistan.

Iran's household gas consumption stood at 421 million cubic meters on Dec. 23, which is a new record, the Spokesman of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Majid Boujarzadeh said.

Iran on average supplies over 82 mcm/d and 82 mcm/d of gas to power plants and industrial units respectively, Boujarzadeh added.

So, according to these figures, Iran uses 13 mcm/d of gas more than the production level. Recently Iran asked Turkmenistan to increase gas delivery to Iran to 30 mcm/d. Iran also stored about 2 bcm of gas in two gas storage facilities (Serajeh and Shourijeh) in the warm months of the current year and started re-extraction of that in November.
