The Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan is working on the development of the country's electricity system, the "Neutral Turkmenistan" newspaper reported.
This issue was discussed at a meeting of the Government of Turkmenistan.
"Thanks to the powerful power plants built in the shortest possible time in different regions of Turkmenistan, the multiply increased potential of the industry allows not only to fully provide domestic consumers, but also to supply electricity abroad," President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said, as quoted in the article.
The head of state emphasized that large-scale projects aimed at further modernization and construction of power plants were implemented, new power lines were being built, dozens of distribution substations were being built, the system of power supply and lighting of the capital city and other cities and settlements of the country was being updated in the electric power industry of Turkmenistan.
Earlier it was reported that the total amount of electricity produced in Turkmenistan is planned to be increased to 33 billion kilowatt-hours by 2024, which is 27.2 percent more than the plans for 2018.
Turkmenistan sells electricity to Afghanistan, Iran and Turkey. Ashgabat is also studying the prospects of supplies to the markets of the Caucasus, Central and South Asia. At this stage, 13 power plants are operating in Turkmenistan.
