Two Turkish companies receive license for oil and gas exploration

The Turkish companies "Calik Petrol Arama Uretim San. ve Tic. A. S." and "Traoil Dogal Enerji Kaynaklari Arastirma ve Uretim Sanayi Tic. A. S." have received a license for oil and gas exploration, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey told Trend Sept. 6.

The license has been issued for oil and gas exploration in Diyarbekir province, on the territory with a total area of 70,000 hectares, the ministry noted.

Each company has been issued a license for oil and gas exploration on the territory with a total area of 30,500 hectares, the ministry said.

"In order to obtain a license for the exploration of oil and gas in this province, the "Calik Petrol Arama Uretim San. ve Tic. A.S." company appealed to the ministry on February 20, 2018, and "Traoil Dogal Enerji Kaynakları Arastirma ve Uretim Sanayi Tic. A.S." appealed to the ministry on March 27, 2018," the ministry said.

The law permitting oil exploration in forests and national parks came into force in Turkey in April 2014.

According to the report of the ministry, a total of 56 wells have been drilled within the framework of exploration of new oil and gas fields in Turkey since 2014, of which 54 are onshore, and two are offshore.

Around 1,863 exploration work was carried out in Turkey to search for new oil and gas fields as of late 2017.
