Mitsubishi, Gap Inşaat commission large gas chemical complex in Turkmenistan

The Consortium of the Mitsubishi Corporation (Japan) and Gap Inşaat (Turkey) companies has commissioned a large gas chemical complex in the city of Garabogaz of Balkan region of Turkmenistan, a source close to the companies said Sept. 17.

With the commissioning of this industrial enterprise that has no analogues in the Central Asian region, Turkmenistan will become one of the leading supplier states of mineral products in large volumes to the world market, "Turkmen Dovlet Khabarlary" (TDKh) reported.

This enterprise is designed to produce 1,155 million tons of urea per year. The project uses the technology of the Danish Haldor Topsoe AS company, the American UOP company, the Italian Saipem company and the Dutch Uhde Fertilizer company.

With the commissioning of the new enterprise, the annual volume of nitrogen fertilizers produced in the country will exceed two million tons. About one third of these products will be supplied to the domestic market, the rest will be sent for export.

Earlier it was reported that this plant will be the largest enterprise of this kind in the country. The contract for construction of the plant is valued at approximately $1.5 billion. Within the framework of the project, the berth in Garabogaz was reconstructed, from where the products will be sent for export by sea vessels.
