Tehran, Iran, Nov.8
Either everyone uses the Strait of Hormuz to export their oil, or no one, Former Iranian ambassador to Damascus and adviser to Iranian foreign minister Hussein Sheikh al-Islam told RT Arabic November 7.
"The interests of everyone should be met," said Shaykh al-Islam on whether Iran's military officials are talking about closing the Strait of Hormuz in the event of the United States blocking Iran's oil exports.
“Anyone living in this region should be able to use the Strait,” he said. "It should be available to everyone, including Iran, and we will not allow others to use it if they wish to deprive us of our right.”
Amid rising tensions between Tehran and Washington, Iran has made noises about possibly blocking the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation against U.S. oil sanctions – a move that would make it difficult for countries such as Saudi Arabia and Iraq to ship their crude oil.
