Iran eyes to use LNG for ships instead of diesel fuel

Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) is keeping the focus on creating LNG terminals at the Shahid Rajaee and Shahid Beheshti ports, PMO Deputy Chairman Mohammad-Ali Hassanzadeh said Nov. 15.

He added that a detailed report on the LNG use in the past two years has been prepared.

Hassanzadeh said that according to the programs prepared by the Organization, the Shahid Rajaee and Shahid Beheshti ports have the potential for creating LNG terminals.

In this regard, the allocation of special areas in the ports is on the agenda, he said.

Hassanzadeh added that Iran intends to use LNG for ships instead of diesel fuel.

"Thanks to its proximity to Strait of Hormuz and Chabahar, the Shahid Rajaee Port is favorable for the creation of an LNG bunker for the ships," Hassanzadeh said.

He added that Iran is ready to cooperate with European countries in LNG sector.ır.
