By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend:

In September 2018, the number of gas subscribers in Turkey increased by 8.84 percent compared to September 2017 and amounted to 14.8 million people, Turkey's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) told Trend on Dec. 3.

During the reported period, the number of subscribers among the population increased by 1.1 million, the EPDK said.

"In September 2018, Turkey's natural gas imports decreased by 11 percent and amounted to 3.2 billion cubic meters," the EPDK added.

Azerbaijan’s State Statistics Committee had earlier told Trend that the Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR exported 3,667.62 million cubic meters of gas worth $809.1 million to Turkey in January-September 2018.

SOCAR supplied 3,772.67 million cubic meters of natural gas worth $729.98 million to Turkey in January-September 2017.

Thus, 69 percent of the natural gas exported by Azerbaijan accounts for Turkey. In January-September 2018, the country exported 5,262.74 million cubic meters of natural gas worth $1,028.24 million.

Turkey imports gas from Azerbaijan via the South Caucasus gas pipeline (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum). In the future, after the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) fully works, the supply of Azerbaijani gas to Turkey will increase.
