BP ups gas output from Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz

In 2018, the Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz gas and condensate field produced 11.5 billion standard cubic metres (bcm) of gas and more than 2.5 million tonnes (20.5 million barrels) of condensate, Trend reports citing BP Azerbaijan report on Business Update, 2018 full year results.

Around 10.2 billion cubic meters of gas and 2.4 million tons of condensate (around 19 million barrels) was produced from Shah Deniz in 2017.

“In 2018, Shah Deniz also celebrated 100 billion cubic metres of total gas production from the field since the start of operations. The milestone was achieved at the end of December, exactly 12 years after the first announcement of the start-up of commercial gas production from the field and start-up of operations of the South Caucasus Pipeline,” reads the report.

The existing Shah Deniz facilities’ production capacity is currently 48.0 million standard cubic metres of gas per day or around 16bcma, said BP.

“In 2018, Shah Deniz spent more than $578 million in operating expenditure and more than $1.44 billion in capital expenditure, the majority of which was associated with the Shah Deniz 2 project,” said the report.

Shah Deniz participating interests are: BP (operator – 28.8 percent), TPAO (19.0 percent), AzSD (10.0 percent), SGC Upstream (6.7 percent), PETRONAS (15.5 percent), LUKOIL (10.0 percent) and NICO (10.0 percent).
