Gasoline consumption up in Azerbaijan

In the 1Q2019, gasoline consumption in Azerbaijan increased by 3 percent compared to the 1Q2018, David Mammadov, SOCAR vice-president for refining, told reporters on the sidelines of a conference on “Oil Refining and Petrochemistry of the Caspian Sea and Central Asia - Conjuncture, Projects Implementation, Technical Solutions” in Baku, Trend reports.

During the same period, about 350,000 tons of gasoline were produced at the Heydar Aliyev Baku Oil Refinery, he said.

In January-March 2019, the output of oil products in Azerbaijan amounted to about 1.2 million tons, according to the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan. In 2018, this figure was 4.76 million tons of oil products.

The Heydar Aliyev Baku Oil Refinery is being modernized, and this process will be completed in 2021. After modernization, the service life of the refinery will increase to 2040.

The cost of upgrading the Heydar Aliyev Baku Oil Refinery is estimated at about $2.2 billion.
