Russia’s LUKOIL company plans to build a propylene plant with a capacity of 500,000 tons per year in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod, Trend reports referring to Russian media outlets.
According to the information, the head of LUKOIL Vagit Alekperov said that the company had made an investment decision to set up production of propylene with an estimated capacity of 500,000 tons in the town of Kstovo in Nizhny Novgorod.
He noted that the company will process its own raw materials and the products will be put up for export.
A site in Russia’s Perm was also considered as a possible location for the plant.
As Vice President for Refining, Petrochemicals and Gas Processing at Lukoil Rustem Gimaletdinov said in May, the advantage of the project in Perm is the presence of a large amount of "the most correct raw material" - ethane, liquefied hydrocarbon gases and light naphtha.
At the same time, the authorities of Nizhny Novgorod noted that polypropylene production at the Kstovo site could become a logical continuation of the operation of two new catalytic cracking units with a capacity of 4 million tons per year, a byproduct of which is propylene.
