By Fakhri Vakilov- Trend:

Turakurgan thermal power plant (TPP) in Namangan region, the construction of which is carried out by Japanese consortium Mitsubihi Corporation and Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, will be commissioned in August, Trend reports citing Sputnik Uzbekistan.

“Almost all the tests have been completed at TPP, and the work is underway to connect the first combined-cycle turbine. Now the TPP will function partially, and by the end of the year it will work at full capacity,” chief engineer of the power plant Nodirbek Nasibaliyev said.

He stated that summer and winter are considered the peak periods of electricity consumption in the Fergana Valley, as at this time the average consumption is 1800 MW. Putting into operation of the Turakurgan TPP will partially satisfy the need for electricity.

"In the second half of August, the first block of the combined cycle gas turbine power plant will be commissioned and the first 300 MW of electricity will be produced. This will provide 70-80 percent of electricity to Namagan region. When our first power unit is fully operational in September, the entire region will be provided with electricity," engineer noted.

He also noted the advantages of this plant TPP stating that the cost of electricity produced here is different from other thermal power plants.

Nasibaliyev stressed that the second combined-cycle plant will start functioning in December of this year. As a result, the TPP will produce 900 MW of additional capacity for residents of the Fergana Valley, which is more than half of the electricity consumed by the population of the valley.

The amount of the project for the construction of Turakurgan TPP is more than $1.195 billion. After 10 years, the project should be fully paid off.

More than 2,400 domestic and foreign workers are involved in the construction. Design, survey and construction works are performed by engineers and technicians of the Turkish company CaIik Enerji.
