Georgia's electricity import increases

Electricity import amounted to 119.17 million kWh in Georgia in August, while the export reached 0.08 million kWh, Trend reports with reference to Electricity System Commercial Operator of Georgia (ESCO).

In January-August, the volume of electricity imports in Georgia reached 835.19 million kWh, which is 20.5 percent more than in the same period of the previous year.

The export volume in January-August 2019 amounted to 240.65 million kWh, which is 59.1 percent lower than in the eight months of 2018.

During the summer months, electricity imports to Georgia exceeded exports for the first time. In recent years, electricity consumption in Georgia has increased, especially in the summer months.

Since 2006, ESCO has been providing stability to the Georgian electric power sector, uninterrupted electricity supply to the country and active development of the Georgian energy system.
