Commercial gas production at the Absheron gas field in Azerbaijan will begin in early 2021, Total Director General and Chief Representative in Azerbaijan Denis Lemarchal told reporters in Baku, Trend reports Oct. 16.
“The drilling of an exploration and production well at the field is almost completed,” Lemarchal said. “The well testing continues. The transfer of the Heydar Aliyev drilling rig, which was engaged in drilling the well, is expected in the coming weeks. Well cleaning has been completed. The gas that will be produced as part of the first phase of the field’s development will be directed to the domestic market.”
Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR and Total signed a framework agreement in 2016 on the main contractual and commercial principles regulating the first phase of development of the Absheron field.
Absheron’s reserves are estimated at 326 billion cubic meters of gas and 108 million tons of condensate, according to Total specialists.
