Four renewable energy objects, the total capacity of which is 104.8 MW will be put into operation in Kazakhstan before the end of 2019, Trend reports with reference to the press office of prime minister of Kazakhstan.

The projects include: wind energy plant in North Kazakhstan region, two solar parks in Kyzylorda region and hydropower plant in East Kazakhstan region.

The launch of the abovementioned projects would increase total capacity of renewable energy sources (RES) in Kazakhstan to 1,042 MW, which is double the volume as of the end of 2018. Capacity of renewable energy in Kazakhstan will be no less than 3,000 MW by 2025.

Some 83 RES objects are currently operating in Kazakhstan, including 18 wind parks, 27 solar parks, 35 hydropower plants and three bioelectricity stations. Some 15 objects (405.17 MW) of 83 total plants were put into operation this year.

“The number of RES objects in Kazakhstan will be 87 objects before the end of 2019. Value of investments into the sector amounted to 406 billion tenge (approximately $1 billion),” Kazakh Prime Minister Askar Mamin said.

He reminded that Kazakhstan has held an international auction to implement RES projects. Some 138 companies from 12 countries participated in this auction.

He highlighted that leaders by number of RES are Almaty, Zhambyl, East Kazakhstan regions, whereas there are no RES objects at all in West Kazakhstan and Aktobe regions.

“Regional akimats (administrative centers) should be more active with investors on RES projects, and expand RES objects' use to improve environment in the regions,” Mamin concluded.
