By Fakhri Vakilov-Trend:

Uzbekistan began importing electricity from Turkmenistan on December 1, Trend reports referring to the press service of Uzbekistan’s National Electric Networks.

The volume of electricity imported from Turkmenistan is about 15 million kilowatt hours per day.

According to the company, 14.9 million kW/h of electricity was imported from Turkmenistan to Uzbekistan on December 1, 2019, and 15.4 million kW/h on December 2.

Energy supplies are carried out in accordance with the schedule and volumes approved by the agreement reached with the Turkmenenergo state corporation on November 30 on import of electricity for the winter period 2019-2020.

Under the current regime of the electric network and substation, the systems of Uzbekistan’s National Electric Networks are capable of delivering electricity to the border of regional networks without any restrictions, the report said.

On November 30, National Electric Networks of Uzbekistan JSC reported that in connection with the agreement, from December 1, positive changes will occur in the supply of electricity to Uzbekistan and blackouts will become significantly fewer, the report said.

Uzbekistan’s electricity imports from neighboring countries in the region were resumed only two years ago. The peak of imports falls mainly in the winter and is aimed at meeting the needs of the population and industry.

As part of its participation in the Central Asian energy system, Tashkent resumed import from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan a year earlier, and from Kazakhstan in July this year.
