Petrol price hike affects Iran's foreign exchange market

Governor of Central Bank of Iran Abdul Nasser Hemmati published a note on his Instagram commenting currency market situation following the rise in gasoline prices.

“These days, again, the issue of rising currency rates in the market is a topic of discussion both by ordinary citizens and economists. As I have repeatedly emphasized, the central bank will continue to provide professional market management that has brought the currency rate stability over the past year,” Hemmati said in a statement on his Instagram, Trend reports.

“Naturally, the rise in gasoline price will affect various markets, including the currency market and its relative stability over several months,” the governor added.

“Regardless of the causes and effects of the petrol price reform plan, the principled management of the currency market is among CBI's tasks,” noted the official. “So I assure everyone that, as before, the central bank will take every effort to restore stability to the currency market.”

Hemmati also warned people about the risk of investing in the foreign exchange market.
