BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec.9

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

Technical problems have almost been eliminated at three wells of Kursangi and Garabagli oil fields in Azerbaijan, so that to start using Chinese technology there, a source in the country’s oil and gas market told Trend.

The source noted that the pilot project of using Chinese technology at these fields may be launched in late December this year, or in early January 2020. This technology is about injecting hot air into the reservoirs, which will allow to raise the oil recovery ratio by 15-20 percent and resume production at exhausted and old wells. The

As the source said, the project will be carried out after receiving necessary permissions from Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations.

Kursangi and Garabagli onshore oil fields produced 122,850 tons of oil from January through October 2019.

The daily production from the mentioned fields stood at 405 tons in October 2019, as compared to 410 tons per day in the previous months.

The contract for development of Kursangi and Garabagli fields was signed in 1998 for a period of 25 years. The shareholders of Salyan Oil are Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR and China National Oil & Gas Exploration and Development.

The fields are located in Azerbaijan’s Salyan district, around 150 kilometers from Baku. Some experts believe that the remaining reserves on the contract area exceed 150 million tons.
