Japan may help Uzbekistan to modernize its gas transmission system

Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy held a meeting with the Japanese delegation led by the Director-General of the Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau at Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) Hosaka Shin, Trend reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Energy.

The meeting was organized in preparation for the upcoming visit of Uzbekistan’s President of Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Japan in December.

During the meeting, the Uzbek side noted promising cooperation with such Japanese companies as Mitsubishi Corporation, Yokogawa Corporation and Marubeni Corporation. It was emphasized that the country's current policy is open to attract direct investment in the Uzbekistan’s energy sector through introduction of advanced technologies.

The possibility of implementing the second phase of the program for modernizing the gas transmission system of Uzbekistan with the introduction of a center for supervisory Control and data acquisition (SCADA) of gas infrastructure facilities with Marubeni Corporation and the introduction of an automated process control system with Yokogawa was discussed.

Uzbekistan also proposed cooperation in projects such as financing the construction of 4 combined cycle plant units at Navoi TPP JSC, cooperation in the framework of a project for the construction of combined cycle plant at Syrdarya TPP on the basis of PPP principles, a project to develop the potential of electricity sector, the purpose of which is to supply spare parts, maintenance, technical advice for regular inspections, training of chief engineers and installation of remote monitoring of combined cycle plant.

With the participation of Japanese companies with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) funding, projects in the energy sector for the construction of combined-cycle plants at the Navoi TPP and Turakurgan TPP have been successfully implemented to date.

Currently, in this regard, Uzbekneftegaz jointly with Mitsubishi Corporation is studying the prospects of the proposed projects; the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding is expected.

A memorandum of understanding has already been concluded with Yokogawa Corporation in the field of automation of process control systems of Uzbekneftegaz JSC. The parties are preparing to sign a framework agreement.

Ministry of energy is considering the possibility of Marubeni Corporation’s participating in the implementation of the second phase of the Program for the modernization of the gas transmission system of Uzbekistan, with the introduction of a SCADA center for gas infrastructure facilities.
