BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 18

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Azerbaijan remains the main supplier of gas to Georgia, said Natia Turnava, minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Trend reports citing Georgian media outlets.

“Azerbaijan remains our main gas supplier. According to forecasts, about 2.6 billion cubic meters of natural gas are to be supplied to the market by the end of the year, and 95 percent of it is Azerbaijani gas supplied through a transit quota or through SOCAR,” Turnava said.

According to the minister, this year Georgia received about 160 million cubic meters of gas from the Russian Gazprom, which is about five percent of the total volume.

“I do not think that this volume will increase next year,” said Turnava.

According to National Statistical Office of Georgia, in 10 months of 2019, Georgia imported 1.3 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Azerbaijan. The total cost of natural gas exported by Azerbaijan to Georgia during this period amounted to $217 million.

In annual comparison, the volume of natural gas purchased by Georgia from Azerbaijan increased by 66.2 million cubic meters, or 5.3 percent.
