Pipeline put into operation in Iran's South Pars gas field

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 25

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

A pipeline has been put into operation between platforms 13A and 13C, in the 13th phase of Iran-Qatar joint South Pars gas field (this field is called North Dome in Qatar), said Payam Motamed, operator of the South Pars project's 13th Phase, Trend reports citing official website of National Iranian Oil Company.

According to Motamed, the construction of an 18-inch pipeline between the platforms in the phase has the potential to transport 1 billion cubic feet (about 28.3 million cubic meters) of gas daily to the onshore refinery.

Motamed added that the construction of the pipeline that was completed within a week was carried out by Iranian contractors.

The gas extrracted from the 13th phase of Iran's South Pars gas field is being transported to the South Pars Gas Company's 11th processing plant. The plant processes 56 million cubic meters of sour gas per day. The 11th processing plant produces 50 million cubic meters of sweet gas, 80,000 barrels of gas condensate, 2,900 tons of LPG, 2,750 tons of ethane and 400 tons of sulfur per day.

The South Pars gas field is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. At present, Iran's daily gas production from the South Pars gas field is more than 700 million cubic meters. Iran has so far spent $33 billion on projects related to the South Pars gas field.

Gas from Iran's South Pars gas field is transported to refineries in the Pars Special Energy Economic Zone in the port city of Asaluyeh in Iran's southern Bushehr province via a gas pipeline.

Around 75 percent of Iran's gas is supplied by this field.
