Star Refinery resumes jet fuel output in small volumes

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 28

By Leman Zeynalova - Trend:

Star refinery of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR in Turkey has resumed jet fuel production in small volumes, Murat LeCompte, Chief External Affairs Officer at SOCAR Turkey, told PETROTURK, Trend reports.

“Star refinery replaced jet fuel production with diesel output, as the demand for jet fuel dropped globally. We temporarily suspended jet fuel production. This decision turned out to be very beneficial for us, since the diesel demand was in place. Star refinery resumed production of jet fuel in small volumes in July. We will be changing our production profile depending on the situation with pandemic,” he said.

LeCompte pointed out that both Star Refinery and Petkim operated at full capacity during the pandemic.

“Petkim focused on production of raw materials for medical supplies. As a result of integration with Star, Petkim didn’t face any problems with raw material supplies,” he added.

SOCAR Turkey acquired and made Petkim focal point of its investments in 2008.

The petrochemical products, produced by Petkim, are used in several industrial branches such as automotive, electrics, electronics, agriculture, packaging, textile, pharmaceutics, paints, construction, detergent and cosmetics.

The opening ceremony of the Star oil refinery took place on October 19, 2018 in Izmir, Turkey. Its refining capacity is 10 million tons of crude oil per year.
