Iran discloses volume of gas production

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 7

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

Iran produces about 250 billion cubic meters of gas a year, at present, Deputy Oil Minister and Managing Director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Hassan Montazer Torbati said, Trend reports referring to the company’s official website.

The deputy minister emphasized that this is equivalent to the extraction of more than 4 million barrels of oil per day.

Torbati added that the most of Iran is currently supplied with gas. All Iranian cities (except for few cities) will be supplied with gas by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020 - March 21, 2021). These cities are not supplied with gas due to ancient historical monuments and a number of other restrictions.

The director noted that 900 villages and 11 cities are expected to be connected to the Iran’s gas network in the current Iranian year. More than 15 trillion rials (about $357 million) has been spent for this.

At present, Iran's gas refineries process 703 million cubic meters of natural gas per day.

Iran produced 267 billion cubic meters of gas in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020).

About 112 billion cubic meters of it was consumed in housing, trade and catering facilities and the industrial sector. The gas supplied to the industrial sector increased by 7 percent to 42.5 billion cubic meters. Also, 60.6 billion cubic meters of gas was delivered to thermal power plants in the last Iranian year. In addition, Iran exported 17.5 billion cubic meters of gas.
