Russia's Gazprom increases gas purchases from Turkmenistan

Russia's Gazprom increased gas purchases from Turkmenistan in 1H2020 – from 1.2 billion cubic meters in the 1H2019 to 1.7 billion cubic meters, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenportal information portal.

Meanwhile, Gazprom reduced purchases from 5.4 billion cubic meters to 4.1 billion cubic meters of gas from Kazakhstan, and stopped buying natural gas from Uzbekistan from the beginning of 2020 till the end of June.

In total, Gazprom's purchases of gas in Central Asia fell from 9.9 billion cubic meters to 5.8 billion cubic meters from January through June 2019.

Gazprom resumed the purchase of Turkmen natural gas in April 2019, which contributed to the development of trade and economic relations between the countries.

The growth of trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Russia was 68.8 percent in 2019 ($694.8 million) compared to 2018, and it increased by 3.8 times (to $518 million) from January through April 2020.
