Romania invites Turkmenistan to explore potential offered by Constanta Port Area

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 24

By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

Romania invites Turkmenistan to explore the potential offered by Constanta Port Area, as well as the activities and facilities offered by the Romanian companies OIL TERMINAL SA and CONPET SA as a complementary element for the provision of a Caspian Sea - Black Sea hydrocarbons transport corridor, towards the European market, Ministry of Economy, Energy and Business Environment of Romania told Trend.

The ministry explained it saying that in order to harness the significant resources from the Caspian area, including those of Turkmenistan, secure transport routes for hydrocarbons must be ensured, the Black Sea being the shortest route to Europe.

“Therefore, building an energy transport Corridor between the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea could offer real economic and commercial opportunities,” further clarified the ministry.

The ministry noted that given the existence of an untapped real potential for cooperation, direct dialogue with partners in Turkmenistan may allow the identification of new directions for cooperation in the energy sector, including the delivery of machinery, equipment and services for this sector.

“The two countries are also interested in strengthening cooperation in the gas sector by developing bilateral cooperation relations between profile companies, based on a Memorandum of Understanding,” note the Romanian ministry.

At the same time, ROMGAZ SA, the largest producer and the main supplier of natural gas in Romania, could be an important partner as it has the expertise and the necessary technologies for carrying out geological exploration works, modernization, reconstruction and repairs, mutually beneficial to achieve the objectives from the oil and gas sectors, says the ministry.

“Both the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea have been recognized as having significant offshore wind potential, and the two countries can include in their development strategies important investments in this field and can have discussions and exchanges of experience about the development of this sector,” added the Romanian side.

“Romania appreciates the energy cooperation with Turkmenistan as a strategic component of the bilateral dialogue, with significant impact for the development of regional cooperation,” said the ministry, adding that Romania and Turkmenistan have a significant potential for strengthening their relations in the field of energy on the basis of traditional ties and the already existing legal framework.

Bucharest is ready to capitalize on cooperation opportunities, especially in the oil and gas sector, including expertise in the equipment and machinery sector for the exploration, exploitation, processing, and transport of crude oil and natural gas, but also for research and development, concluded the message.
